Project House Building

Building your dream house in Costa Rica will be an exciting and educational journey where most things are different here compared to building a house in Sweden. Everything from the climate (rainforest with 90% humidity and sometimes huge amounts of rainfall), material supply, the building permit process, legal issues, procurement, language challenges if you don´t speak Spanish :-) building codes, risks, etc.  So there are lots of questions we need to get knowledge and answers to before the first sod is taken on our plot. What seems significantly simpler down here compared to at home is the lack of bureaucracy, the building permit process goes quickly and smoothly, without the authorities arguing about roof pitch, size, etc. The climate means that the requirements for insulation, energy consumption, wet room requirements do not exist here. On the other hand, there are even higher demands on roofs and drainage to handle enormous amounts of rain in a short time, demands on construction that can withstand minor earthquakes. Here it is termites that like to munch on anything called wood.... High moisture level and heat require good ventilation... We will continuously document our project where we are guaranteed to come across one or two mines along the way :-) Hopefully can we inspire others to make the same journey as us and at best learn from our mistakes...  but also show the possibilities you have to build your dream home down here. How long will it take before the house is finished?  Impossible to answer, but hopefully we will break ground in 2022.  In our blogg we will continuously document our construction process for those who are interested in following the project.
